It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony "Nino" Licata, 84, of Brooklyn, NY, on February 9, 2026. Anthony faced life with incredible courage and resilience, and his strength inspired all who knew him.
Anthony Licata was born in Brooklyn on April 10, 1941, one of nine children born to Rose and Ralph Licata. As the second-to-last sibling, he earned the nickname "Nino," which stayed with him throughout his life. To his friends, he was affectionately known as Tony, Nino, and Anthony.
A proud veteran, Anthony served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was also a talented and dedicated craftsman. After studying drafting, he founded his own successful woodworking business, creating exquisite pieces for some of New York's finest stores and residences.
In September 1965, Anthony married Laura, and together they built a beautiful life in Brooklyn Heights, recently celebrating 51 years of marriage.
Anthony was a devoted New Yorker and embraced his Sicilian heritage, taking his family on a memorable trip to his father's hometown of Licata, Sicily. He was known for his generous heart, loyalty, and unwavering kindness, always ensuring that those around him felt loved and cherished.
Many days, Anthony could be found strolling the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, reading the newspaper on his favorite bench, or watching the boats glide along the East River. His storytelling was unmatched, and his love of sharing good food with family and friends was legendary. A simple man at heart, his greatest joy came from his family.
Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Laura, and his sons Perry (Kelli) and Chase (Natalie). He was a proud and devoted Nonno to his four cherished grandchildren—Emelia, Nico, Tristan, and Theadora—who brought him endless joy. He will be deeply missed by his lifelong friends, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. His warmth, gentle spirit, and generosity will be remembered forever. He truly was the best.
A Mass will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 9:45 AM at Holy Child Jesus Church.
